How does Smart AI Renamer work?
The app uses AI to analyze your PDFs and images. It extracts relevant information like dates, senders, amounts, and document types, then generates a descriptive filename. You can preview all suggested names before renaming.
Is my data safe?
With Gemma 4 or Apple Intelligence, your documents never leave your Mac. With OpenAI or Anthropic, they go directly from your Mac to the provider you choose — we run no server and collect no data. The app contains no tracking or analytics SDKs. See the privacy policy for details.
Which AI should I choose?
Gemma 4 runs on your Mac, reads scans reliably, and is free after a one-time download — ideal for Macs with 16 GB of memory or more. Apple Intelligence needs no setup but is less accurate with complex documents. OpenAI and Anthropic are the most accurate; they need your own API key, and you pay the provider for usage. The app's settings show which option fits your Mac.
What does it cost? What about my subscription?
As of version 3.0, Smart AI Renamer is a one-time purchase: try 20 renames for free, then unlock the full version once. If you had a Premium or Pro subscription, the full version is unlocked for you automatically. You can cancel a subscription that is still active in the App Store settings under “Subscriptions”.
How do I get an API key?
For OpenAI, create one at platform.openai.com/api-keys; for Anthropic, at console.anthropic.com. Enter it in the app's settings — it is stored only in your Mac's keychain.
What file formats are supported?
Smart AI Renamer supports PDFs, JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, and other common image formats. It works great with scanned documents, invoices, receipts, and photos.
Can I customize the naming pattern?
You can use pre-built templates for invoices, receipts, or bank statements, or create your own naming patterns with the visual template builder. Each monitored folder can have its own template.
